Las Vegas, California April 28, 1999 - AMREL Systems, Inc., developers of ruggedized mobile computing technology, and Novatel Wireless, Inc. a leading provider of wireless Internet solutions, announce today at the International Wireless Communications Expo that the ROCKY® Ruggedized Notebooks are now available integrated with the Novatel Wireless Expedite Wireless IP modem. This combination provides mobile workers with cost-effective and dependable wireless access to data in a durable notebook computer.
The ROCKY II and ROCKY 1000+ represent the next generation in Mobile Data Computing (MDC) technology, designed for use in mobility deployments for mission-critical data. Built to withstand rough usage, the ROCKY line is MIL-STD-810C/E rated for shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, rain, marine, fog, and altitude changes. Unlike older MDCs, the ROCKY line can be removed from the vehicle for customer field service or desktop use, increASLng the flexibility of the solution.

Using the Wireless IP network and the standard Internet Protocol, the Expedite Wireless IP Modem from Novatel Wireless, transmits wireless d,./ata at speeds up to 19.2 kbps. Wireless IP, also known as Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD), is a method of transmitting data in small packets of information over the existing cellular phone network (AMPS). Built-in error correction ensures reliable, accurate data transmission everywhere the Wireless IP network is deployed.
The Expedite modem builds upon the success of its predecessor, the NRM-6812. With its exclusive design, Expedite is a 0.6 watt full-duplex wireless modem that is almost four times smaller than the earlier version. This modem can be integrated easily into numerous applications allowing fast and secure wireless access to information in both fixed and mobile environments. Expedite weighs less than 1 ounce and measures 5x54x73mm in size allowing it to fit inside the smallest of cases.
