AMREL’s ROCKY Endures a Real Life Survival Test
Arcadia, CA. -- Sept. 26, 2002 -- AMREL’s ROCKY rugged notebook computer proved its ability to endure real life survival situations this summer when a ROCKY mounted in a Westminster Police Department patrol car survived a collision that rendered the police vehicle and all other equipment inside unsalvageable. According to Westminster Police Department, Sgt. Jack Davidson was stopped at a red traffic signal at the corner of Beach Boulevard and Westminster Avenue when his patrol car was rear ended by a drunk driver traveling approximately 65 mph in a truck. “I would have expected the ROCKY not to function following an impact of that force” said Lt. Derek Marsh of Westminster PD. According to Lt. Marsh, the collision was so severe that the entire vehicle, including the engine, had to be written off by the department as a total loss. The only equipment that survived the crash was the ROCKY rugged computer. Sgt. Davidson was hospitalized following the accident, but thankfully has recovered and is now back on duty. “We hope our customers never find themselves in a situation such as Sgt. Davidson did, but we are confident that if called upon, ROCKY will stand up to the task at hand,” said Linda Talcott, AMREL’s director of corporate communications.
