The rugged laptop has protective chambers which separate the motherboard, I/O ports, removable hard drive, and swappable “smart bay” modules into their own housing units. This encapsulation process provides extra protection against water, dust, and other potentially damaging materials.

ROCKY’s hard disk drives are insulated by shock absorbent membranes mounted on the top and bottom of the HDD to protect it from those bumps and jolts which are so common with field use.  In addition, flexible connectors between the hard disk drive and the system board have been utilized to protect against connector breakage and prevent shock transfers from one component to the other.  For further protection, the ROCKY is designed with padded corners to provide even more protection when exposed to external trauma.
