AMREL’s ROCKY Military line has been specially designed to meet and/or exceed even the toughest military standards. The ROCKY rugged notebook, rugged PDA, and rugged tablet have been certified to MIL-STD 810F for ruggedness and MIL-STD 461 for electromagnetic emissions shielding. Resistant to rain, shock, vibration, dust, humidity, salt fog and extreme temperatures, the ROCKY will perform in the most abusive and adverse conditions.

Military Standard 461 establishes the design requirements for the control of the electromagnetic e mis sion and susceptibility characteristics of electronic, electric, and electromechanical equipment and subsystems designed or procured for use by activities and agencies of the Department of Defense. The following requirements were met for certification: MIL-STD 461E (CE102, CS101, CS114, CS115, CS116, RE101, RE102, RS101, RS103). FCC, Part 15 Class B. Safety: UL, TUV, CE, E-Mark markings.

MIL-STD 810F, Method 516.5 Procedure I - 40G, 11 ms, terminal-peak saw tooth shock pulse, three shocks in each direction should be applied along three orthogo nal axes of test item (total 18 shocks).

 

Temperature Shock - RK7-M Notebook
MIL-STD 810F, Method 503.4 Procedure I - Temperature at 20~22°C (68~72°F); relative humidity at 60~70%; atmospheric pressure at 980mbar. 2cycles -40C to +70C 1hour at each peak and less than a minute for change.

RK7-M & RT7-M Notebook: Subjected the unit to temperature of -20°C (-4°F) for 4 hours.

MIL-STD 810F, Method 501.4 Procedure II - Subjected the unit to temperature range of 23~50°C (73~122°F) There are 12 hours dwell time of 23°C (73°F) and 12 hours dwell time of 50°C (122°F) in each cycle, 24 hours per cycle, total of three cycles.

 

High Temperature (Non-operational) - RK7-M & RT7-M Notebook, DR7-M Tablet
MIL-STD 810F, Method 501.4 Procedure I - Subjected the unit to temperature range of 23~70°C (73~158°F) There are 12 hours dwell time of 23°C (73°F) and 12 hours dwell time of 70°C (158°F) in each cycle, 24 hours per cycle, total of seven cycles.

 

Altitude - (Operation)

RK7-M & RT7-M Notebook, DR7-M Tablet: Low pressure (altitude) test level is 15,000 feet. The rate of altitude does not exceed 10 m/sec. Test duration is one hour.

 

Altitude - (Non-operational)
RK7-M & RT7-M & DR7-M: MIL-STD 810F, Method 500.4 Procedure II

RK7-M & RT7-M Notebook, DR7-M Tablet, DA5-M PDA: Low pressure (altitude) test level is 40,000 feet (70,000 feet, DA4-M). The rate of altitude does not exceed 10 m/sec. Test duration is one hour.

 

Humidity - RK7-M & RT7-M Notebook, DR7-M Tablet
MIL-STD 810F, Method 507.4 Procedure I - Relative humidity range is 85~95%, 24 hours cycle, total of ten cycles.

 

Rain - RK7-M & RT7-M Notebook, DR7-M Tablet
MIL-STD 810F, Method 506.4 Procedure II - Nozzle pressure no less than 276 Kpa (40 psig or 2.78 Kg/cm²). The five surfaces (top, front, rear, left, right) of test item subjected to rainfall.

 

Salt Fog - RK7-M & RT7-M Notebook, DR7-M Tablet
MIL-STD 810F, Method 509.4 - Temperature increase to 35°C (95°F) for at least 2 hours before introducing salt fog with concentration of 5± 1%. Fallout rate between 1 and 3 ml/80cm²/hr. Exposure period, 24 hours, followed by 24 hours drying period at standard ambient temperature and relative humidity of 50%± 5%.

 

IP – INDUSTRIAL STANDARD TEST
Dust IP-54 RK7-M & RT7-M Notebook, DR7-M Tablet
(IP-54) IP5X, TEST IEC 60529 - The dust test called for units to be placed in a 1m³ dust test chamber and subjected to Talcum dust equaling 2kg/m³. The test was conducted for 8 hours. After the test, units were fully functional.

 

Water IP-54 RK7-M & RT7-M Notebook, DR7-M Tablet
(IP-54) IPX4, TEST IEC 60529 - The spray water test challenged the unit to withstand 10 minutes of continuous water flow. Water flowed at a rate of 1.8L/min from 25 different spray nozzles. After the test, units were fully functional.
