AMREL's ROCKY line of rugged computers are built tough, inside-and-out. It features several key elements that will ensure maximum longevity
and minimal failure on all our products regardless of your environment. Key features that govern the safety and reliability of our rugged
computers are:
Certified to MIL-STD 810F
Housed in a virtually indestructible magnesium casing, the ROCKY rugged notebooks, rugged tablets, and rugged PDAs, are MIL-STD 810F certified. AMREL's MIL-STD 810F certification ensures units are operable in and protected against extreme temperatures, rain, vibration, shock, salt fog, high and low altitudes, explosive atmospheres, and solar radiation.
While some competitors claim compliance on their products, AMREL took the extra step to certify its rugged computers from these extreme environmental conditions. The units are sent to an independent, unbiased lab for thorough testing, and over time, our ROCKY rugged
computers have passed the most rigorous MIL-STD 810F tests with flying colors.

IP54 Certification on Rugged Computers
In addition to MIL-STD 810F certification, the ROCKY rugged computers are also IP54 certified, ensuring the units are resistant to dust and water by industrial standards.
Our ROCKY rugged computers exhibit an unwavering level of durability and reliability. Units are employed with sealed port and connector covers to further enhance the ruggedness of these computers. Additionally, a fully sealed dust and water resistant keyboard contributes to the long-lasting toughness of AMREL's rugged computers.
Fault Tolerant Isolation Design on Rugged Computers
Unique to the ROCKY rugged notebooks and rugged on-board/fixed vehicle models, AMREL's "fault tolerant isolation" design is an innovative and effective way to consistently protect the rugged computers.
The design functionality is analogous to a submarine with each chamber individually sealed in the body of the ROCKY. The rugged notebooks have protective chambers which separate the following compartments:
- Motherboard
- I/O ports
- Removable hard drive
- Swappable "smart bay" modules
This encapsulation process provides extra protection against water, dust, and other potentially damaging materials.
Best of all, should any chamber be damaged due to exposure during operation, it will not damage the whole system, thus saving customers extra cost from replacing the entire unit.
Shock Absorbent Membranes to Withstand Tough Jolts
ROCKY's hard disk drives are insulated by shock absorbent membranes mounted on the top and bottom of the HDD to protect it from those bumps and jolts which are so common with field use. In addition, flexible connectors between the hard disk drive and the system board have been utilized to protect against connector breakage and prevent shock transfers from one component to the other. For further protection, the ROCKY is designed with padded corners to provide even more protection when exposed to external trauma.
